Taking the class in Japan, almost student don`t be allowed speaking. Only the way to speak is lifting own hand. After the teacher call on the name of student, that one can show own thought. I think that way is very good because it is bad for someone thinking if all student speak thought.
In the meantime, taking the class in U.S.A, all student can speak whenever we get a question without allowing. I think it is good too because that way can solve the question soon.
I want to be used to this way as soon as possible. Thank for reading.
You are right, the way of classroom communication is very different here. I wasn't used to it either and still have a problem speaking up when in a group of other people. Teachers in the IEI are aware of many cultural differences, and this is one of them. :) Don't worry if it's difficult to speak in class, just do what you can.
